Just like we have SharePoint Foundation for on-premise, Microsoft issues a free 1 year developer license for SharePoint Online as well. Even better, we get a full SharePoint Online experience here unlike SharePoint Foundation where, a lot of enterprise features were blocked.

  • how to setup your free 1 year developer account for Office 365 and then,

Office365, Apps and Multi-Factor Authentication

Premise

I had just enabled the multi-factor authentication option for my Office365 account. I chose authentication by Microsoft Authenticator app. Once the setup was completed, I was able to successfully access my Office365 account/apps online i.e., in a web browser. However, on my laptop, I was unable to sign into any of my office apps (Outlook, Skype for Business, etc.).

In Office 365, for updates, you can either go for

  • Standard Release (default) or,
  • First Release.

In general, for production environment, we will always go for the Standard Release option. However, in your developer environment, depending upon your current situation, you might wanna try out the new and upcoming features first!
